It is a Mexican three-masted barque. Built in Bilbao in 1982, it is own by the Mexican Navy and it is used as a training ship. Its home port is Acapulco.

It is a symbol of Mexico because it portrays the spirit of combativeness and independence. It is named after the Emperor Cuauhtémoc "One that has descended like an eagle on the enemy". In fact, the figure of Cuauhtémoc is on the bow of the vessel.

It is used to the challenges of the marine world like crossing the Atlantic in 22 days or crossing Cape Horn in 1993. It sails back and forth the oceans to promote the culture, tradition and history of Mexico and to train the future elite of the Mexican Navy.
